Flooding in Matlock

Statement from Cllr David Hughes, Mayor of Matlock

Our thoughts are with the people who have been inundated by flood water over the last twenty four hours and who are now trying to minimise the damage to their homes and businesses. Bakewell Road is particularly badly affected from Premier Inn to Crown Square.

So far, the flood defences around Hall Leys Park have held and have avoided flooding on the Causeway.

Derbyshire Dales District Council and Matlock Town Council workers are providing sandbags and otherwise supporting residents and businesses with their efforts to minimise damage. The police are redirecting traffic to avoid the A6 and other road closures.

It is not clear at this stage whether the Remembrance Day service on Sunday can be held in Hall Leys Park. A decision will be made later today or tomorrow. If the Park is not available, the service will be held in the Imperial Rooms car park at 3pm.

Matlock Town Council will of course review the flood defence measures in the light of this incident.
