Matlock Flood Warden Scheme

Matlock Town Council, working in partnership with Derbyshire County Council Emergency Planning Team and the Environment Agency, has created a Flood Warden Scheme for The Town.

Similar schemes have been successfully implemented throughout the country over recent years and moving forward from the November 2019 floods, it seems appropriate to develop a scheme for the town.

The Flood Warden’s role will initially be to:

Initially, an area covering Bakewell Road through to Hall Leys Park, will be assessed to identify hazards that would not be visible should there be a flood. This information would be used to assist Emergency Services arriving at the scene. As work progresses a Community Flood Plan will evolve.

The Matlock Green and Knowleston Place area will follow soon after.

Councillor Steve Wain is Matlock’s first Flood Warden and additional Wardens will be recruited. Councillor Wain has been communicating with residents and businesses to make them aware of the Flood Warden Scheme and how to register for updates on flood alerts.

In addition Councillor Wain has been working with the Environment Agency who have produced a set of Frequently Asked Questions and Information, specifically about Matlock, which provide useful guidance on who to contact and how to stay prepared – Matlock-Flood-Risk-Info-FAQs.pdf

A public meeting was held about Flood Awareness on Thursday 7th October 2021 and the notes can be found here.
