Matlock Town Council Flag Schedule

Matlock has around a hundred shop-mounted brackets used for displaying flags and Christmas trees at various points throughout the year, following roughly the same schedule.

  • January – Christmas Trees & Lights come down.
  • March/April – England Flags go up in March in time for St. George’s Day on April 23rd.
  • May – England Flags come down, and Pride Flags go up in time for Pride Month in June.
  • July – A variety of Flags go up for summer, coinciding with the local school summer holidays.
  • September – Flags come down.
  • Late October – Flags go up in time for Remembrance Services in November.
  • November – Flags come down.
  • Mid-November – Christmas Trees and Lights go up in time for the Light Switch On in late November.

All dates are approximate as the actual changing of the flags is a very weather dependent job. Additionally certain national events (death of a national figure for instance) can mean that Flags MUST be taken down in certain circumstances outside this schedule.
