Survey Results

Thank you to those of you who completed Matlock Town Council’s transport Survey.

We received 349 responses and the main findings were:

The results suggested the changes the developers propose making would cut traffic by around 1%.
The survey showed that buses would only be more attractive if they were every 30 minutes and covered all areas of town.
Many people said they would not use public transport even if it were improved.

Background to the Survey

The planning application is for 435 dwellings, some additional retail and restaurant / café / take away premises, a “country park” and a play area. The development details are available on the Derbyshire Dales District Council website. The application reference is 18/01242/EIA.

Matlock Town Council wanted to understand how a development of this scale is likely to affect the traffic in all of Matlock and the surrounding area.

The developer is proposing a number of measures to make traffic flow more easily and to reduce traffic in Matlock overall. Measures to reduce traffic include changes to the bus routes in Matlock and the introduction of a service to help people reduce the use of their cars – a Personal Travel Planning service. The purpose of this service will be to help people change to walking, cycling or public transport.

Matlock Town Council wanted an understanding of whether or not residents could or would reduce the number of car journeys that they take into Matlock through using a Personal Travel Planning service, and any barriers to making the changes that are proposed.
