MATLOCK CINEMA DEVELOPMENT

Please be aware that this post was written more than 6 months ago, as such, it may contain some out dated information.

Matlock Town Council welcomes the decision made by Derbyshire Dales District Council to approve the conversion of the Market Hall into a cinema with adjoining restaurant or retail space, leaving space for future community use. Matlock Town Council would like to thank Matlock Community Vision and Derbyshire Dales District Council for the work that they have jointly undertaken over several years that should now lead to an improved gateway to the centre of Matlock.  Matlock Town Council is keen to work with Derbyshire Dales District Council to ensure the project aligns with both Councils’ Climate Emergency intent.

The Council also hopes that the new scheme will be able to benefit from revisions to bus laybys with a new wide pavement area and new bus shelters along the side of the redevelopment by Derbyshire County Council.

Cllr David Hughes, Mayor, said: “This new cinema complex is an exciting addition to Matlock that will enhance Matlock as an evening entertainment centre in Derbyshire Dales. In addition, the proposals by the cinema operator to open during the day for much of the year and to open for community events will bring new visitors to the town centre during the day. I look forward to its prospective opening in December 2021.”
